Giants GM Joe Schoen denies rumors of ‘buyer’s remorse’ over Daniel Jones’ contract
Chris Pedota / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Giants’ had a rough season this year. Following Daniel Jones’ poor start and abrupt injury, the team was forced to turn to alternative options.

Despite the silver lining being that the team discovered talent in Tommy DeVito, speculation quickly arose if the team would have still offered Daniel Jones a massive contract worth $160 million, which ultimately resulted in the team losing out on its star running back Saquon Barkley.

It turns out that the New York Giants are not experiencing any form of “buyer’s remorse” over that transaction. General Manager Joe Schoen was asked in his pre-draft press conference about comments made by Rich Eisen, who hosted NFL Network’s Scouting Combine coverage and claimed to have heard on multiple occasions rumors of the Giants being willing to move on from Jones.

There's stuff out there all the time that's not true. I'm still confident in Daniel, the way he's wired, what he showed us in 2022. I've still got a lot of confidence in Daniel. Defending the quarterback, Joe Schoen stated

Well, it does seem hard to believe considering Jones cost the team the best running back in the NFL.

Joe Schoen believes the Giants made the right call by signing Daniel Jones to a long-term deal

Daniel Jones was phenomenal last season, throwing for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. The offseason was great for the quarterback, as he committed to being the face of the Giants organization for the next four years.

However, the expectations were high, and with that came added pressure. Daniel Jones was expected to have yet another stellar season, but in the 5 games that he played before being injured, he was able to throw for 909 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.

His downfall scared fans, and then when the ACL injury happened, it made things worse. There is no guarantee of how Jones will play once he returns; if he fails to play like he did in 2022, then the New York Giants may begin to get worried about their investment.

As the NFL Draft nears, there is a strong possibility that the Giants may decide to shock their fanbase by opting to pick a quarterback. They have the sixth pick in the first round, which means they have a legitimate chance to draft Drake Maye.

The Bears and Commanders will be picking Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, respectively; however, the Patriots may or may not pick a QB with their pick. The Cardinals and Chargers have franchise quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert.

In the event that Maye is unavailable, the Giants will still have options such as Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, and J.J. McCarthy. The question in this case will be: do the Giants consider these players to be realistically better options than Daniel Jones at this point in time and in the near future?
