Brian Callahan leaves the door open for Titans adding more wide receivers
Denny Simmons / The Tennessean-USA TODAY NETWORK

Even after making a big splash free agent addition of wide receiver Calvin Ridley, the Tennessee Titans may not be done adding to their wide receiver room.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan spoke to the media last week to address Tennessee’s roster construction and approach to the 2024 NFL Draft. During that presser, Callahan left the door open for the Titans to find Will Levis more weapons to throw to.

Callahan also pin-pointed exactly where the Titans receiving corps needs to improve.

"I think you're always open to adding to those spots. I mean, we have to have someone emerge for us at the slot position receiver," Callahan told me when I asked him what he still feels is lacking within the group. "That's one that, we got some young players I'm excited to take a look at, with obviously Kyle Philips. Mason Kinsey's been around here a little bit. He's shown his mettle. Obviously, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine's been involved in some of those spots over his career. So, trying to find someone emerge in that spot. You got guys that you're trying to always build youth and depth as well. And so those things are in constant flux."

While Callahan appeared open to internal options in the slot and excited to see what Kinsey, Westbrook-Ikhine, and Philips - who he also singled out during an interview at the NFL Owners Meetings as someone he liked coming out of college - have to offer, adding another explosive weapon to the offense via the draft is not off the table.

"You're always trying to have another guy ready to roll. You need depth at every position. That's not just the receivers, but you're always open to those guys. And again, guys that are fast, explosive and physical, you can't have enough of them," added Callahan.

I have long been of the stance that if LSU WR Malik Nabers is available when the Titans come on the clock with the seventh overall pick, he should be their selection. I can't think of a better fit for that fast, explosive, and physical receiver who can emerge as the top guy in the slot.

Nabers has versatility to play both inside and outside. He was PFF's highest graded collegiate wide receiver in the slot last season.

Offensive tackle is an obvious need. But the thought of a Titans' receiving corps with DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Malik Nabers, and Treylon Burks might just be too good to pass up.
