Scottie Scheffler is the commanding betting favorite to win the tartan jacket at +400 this week after winning his second green jacket at the 2024 Masters Tournament this past weekend in a four-shot victory.
Scheffler has been the best ball-striker on Tour by a wide margin for the last year but had been plagued by poor putting, until he switched to a mallet putter four starts ago. He has gained strokes putting in all four starts since the switch while taking his game to another level in that span as he has three wins and a tie for second in his last four starts.
In nine starts this year, Scheffler has a PGA Tour-high eight top-10 finishes, three wins and no result worse than a tie for 17th. The Texan heads to Harbour Town for the second time in his career this week after tying for 11th in his tournament debut at the 2023 RBC Heritage.
Defending RBC Heritage champion Matt Fitzpatrick is also in the field this week and has +2000 odds to defend his title. The Englishman tied for 22nd last week at the Masters and has been playing quality golf lately with top-22 finishes in six of 10 starts this season, with the highlight being a T5 at THE PLAYERS Championship. This will be Fitzpatrick's 10th start at Harbour Town, and he enters with four top-14 finishes here in his last six starts.
Xander Schauffele played another solid week of golf at the Masters when he finished eighth, and he opened with the second-shortest outright odds this week at +1100. Schauffele has been a distant second-best golfer statistically on Tour this season behind Scheffler but is still looking for his first win of the season. His top-10 finish at the Masters was his seventh top-10 finish of 2024 in just nine starts, including his third in a row.
Schauffele has played at Harbour Town four times in his career, with three of those starts coming in 2020 or earlier. His lone start since 2020 at Harbour Town came last year when he finished in solo fourth, which is by far his best result so far on Hilton Head Island.
Rory McIlroy is the other golfer tied with Schauffele for the second-shortest outright odds at +1100 as of Monday morning. McIlroy came up short in his bid for the career grand slam as he tied for 22nd this past weekend at the Masters. In seven PGA Tour starts in 2024, the Northern Irishman has finished between 19th and 24th five times, with his only two other results being a T66 at Pebble Beach and a third-place finish at TPC San Antonio.
McIlroy has only played in the RBC Heritage twice before in his career as he tied for 58th in 2009 and tied for 41st in 2020.
