Watch: Iowa's Caitlin Clark sets record in first quarter vs. South Carolina

Every time Iowa's Caitlin Clark sets foot on the basketball court, it feels like she has broken another record.

In the national championship against South Carolina, Clark scored 18 points in the first quarter, a title game record. According to The Sporting News, the three-time first-team All-American also broke Chamique Holdsclaw's record for most career points in the NCAA Tournament.

At the end of the first quarter, the Hawkeyes led the Gamecocks 27-20.

Clark — who recently declared for the WNBA Draft — is seeking her first national title.

"I think that would be the cherry on top," Clark told ESPN's Alexa Philippou. "That would be the top of the list, the thing that you're most proud of. That's something you get to share with your teammates. But at the same time, it would be for every Iowa women's basketball player that has come before us. I'm fortunate enough to be able to be in the national championship again and give it everything I got."

Clark is doing everything she can to deliver a national title to her home state. The Hawkeyes have never won a championship.

Undefeated South Carolina, however, held Clark to three points in the second quarter, giving her 21 for the half, and held a 49-46 halftime lead.
